339: As Grant describes the first day of fighting at Shiloh, Dickey writes, "I was awakened by the bullets tearing holes in the tent over my head." p. 313: In a section describing Confederate General Buckner's surrender to Grant, Dickey writes, "I met General Buckner after he surrendered to Grant." p. 294: Dickey writes "I was at this fight" in the chapter summary, which mentions the capture of Fort Donelson.

209: "He doesn't say a word about his drinking at this time!" p. A pencilled note on the first blank in volume I reads: "Charles Henry Dickey's personal copy of Grant's Memoirs - Rebound in calf by him - marginal notations are his." The marginal notations exist on more than a dozen pages in volume I. Scuffing to corners, the inner hinges partially cracked, but a sound set. Attractive Art Deco bookplate on the front paste-down of each volume.

A good or better set, rebound in the early 20th century in full brown calf (note that this was probably the green cloth issue, rebound in sheep which looks very much like the sheep used in the "library" binding sometimes done by the publisher).
